Why I don't believe in a Single God
When it comes to this, everybody seems to have an opinion, even the atheists. Lots have been said about how there is only one God, a supreme power which governs one and all and determines the un-deterministic. But considering the rationalist that I am I find it hard to believe that argument.
God in one way or the other is that which affects our lives and which we have no control over. If we were to say that our life is an equation with a lot of variables, some whose properties are known and others whose properties are unknown then saying there is only one god is like saying in an equation there is only one unknown variable. While it makes it easy for comman man to digest the idea, it is as far from the reality (if any exists). If we said there was only one unknown variable in the equation then it would be pretty easy to find a solution to that equation, which we know is untrue.
Since time immemorial we have attributed one god for every unknown that we came up with. So there was the sun God (Surya), since it affected our lives but was mystery till we figured out the solar system. There was the wind God (Vayu), the fire God (Agni) and many more going back to history. We had some orthogonal variables that did not interact with each other and then there were influencing variables in terms of Indira which controlled the rain, thunder and the lightning. The list continues.
We we started exploring and researching, we are now able to find out the properties of these GODs that were all unknown but there still remain a whole lot of unknown. So, putting it all together into a single god would just make it more difficult to understand universe. What we need to do is find these smaller Gods and try to understand them one at a time and you never know if that will lead us to find that last single variable which is the real God.
